I'm Curious For You, Caught My Attention

I have this, recently developed, obsession with Katy Perry.
Maybe, it is because she is on the cover of InStyle magazine, but I really think she is the cutest, most fun thing ever. She makes me want to smack bubblegum, eat Mother's Circus Animal cookies, drink lemonade, wear pink lipgloss, use sugary sweet perfume, and dance around to pop music.

That dress = phenomenal. I know you can only see part of it, but I would love to have it.
(By the way, I am sitting in my satin-y pink robe, pajamas, and slippers).

And if not cute enough, I love the pink hair. (And my girl stays well hydrated!) Not everyone can pull it off, and I always loved Gwen Stefani's hot pink, but I really love this lavendery-pink. It is adorable. No, I won't be dying my hair pink BUT, I will be listening to "Teenage Dream," "Last Friday Night," and "I Kissed a Girl" on repeat.

Fly Away

I was watching Pan Am, which I think I am going to like, but not as much as Mad Men. Anyway, it reminded me of what I had seen/heard about Southwest Airlines and what their flight attendants wore in the 1970s.

This is PSA - Pacific Southwest Airlines - they have the cutest little outfits. I don't see what is wrong wit them, they're adorable, maybe a little short, but adorable.

Here is Southwest. Cute, and I read somewhere that they only hired people with good legs and good faces. I wish I could find this photo in color. So cute.

That's all I have. Kind of boring, I know.

Soon, and Very Soon

I will be spending a glorious week with these guys:
Mom, Dad, and Dani.

I am pretty excited because: 1) I miss them and 2) I could use a vacation.
Even though my grandma's memorial service is also going to be part of this trip, I am still so excited.

In other news, I injured my elbow somehow and have only been able to do leg work at the gym. Good, bad, I don't know, all I know is my legs are killing me.

And my last bit of info for this Saturday until I go finish my laundry and take a shower, I tried my first protein shake. It's not super oh-mi-god I want to drink this everyday, but it doesn't taste bad either.

My First Ever Protein Shake:
1 packet Spirutein Chocolate Protein Powder
1 cup skim milk
6 strawberries
15 blueberries
5 ice cubes

Blend and enjoy.
Happy Saturday

Happy Belated Birthday to the One and Only....

"Poppa Benz"
as I like to call him, or dad.
But you can call him Bret or BB.
Anyway, last Thursday (when I would have posted this but then got stuck with the power outage and spent the weekend in a stupor of loss of sleep), was his last day of work and his 58th birthday. This lucky man is now retired. Join me on my trip down memory lane with my dad.

My dad is quite the character, and back in the 90s he was known to sport a bright t-shirt or tank top with white shorts or the reverse, and his never wear socks with my loafers because they are my only shoes. (He still, does not wear socks, I think my mom, sister, and I are tired of telling him he should).

Being the first child and being a girl I hold a very special place in his heart, as he does in mine. I will always be daddy's little girl, even though, clearly I'm not that small anymore. A girl can dream to have that petite, hourglass figure again, right? Okay, not quite appropriate... Moving on.

Awkward teen phase meet not awkward dad phase. Anyway, maybe not so noticeably in this photo thanks to my lovely chubby cheeks, double chin, and oh so noticeable cleavage for like a 16-year-old, I look a lot like my dad.

We sure put the "merry" in Merry Christmas, don't we?

The similarities are astounding. Weird faces, awkward hand movements, oh and if you hear us talk, we talk the same. Example. My college roommate (friend from high school) who was not super close with my family and never spent much time around them, spent a day with my parents once. As soon as she was alone with me, she said, "Oh my god, your dad talks just like you! It is so freaky. I was sitting there and I am thinking, did he really just say that, Lindsay would so say that." Thanks dad. :)

His favorite daughter, don't tell Danielle.

Aww mom and dad.

A favorite photo. Much of our summers were spent like this. Thanks dad for your Mexican blood so I don't look like a ghost and easily pick up some color.

A recent photo with the other child. My dad loves his cigars, and he loves his casinos. I suppose that's what retirement will be like for him. He said he's going to do some fishing too.

I have the best dad. I'm sorry that I can't share him with you. He always makes me laugh, can fix anything, enjoys the same music as me, knows when to say it and when not too, and would do anything for me in a heartbeat.

Now We Ain't Ashamed of Who We Are

Just some things to brighten my Monday.

Are these not totally to die for? I would wear them with everything. Jeans, slacks, dresses, skirts, everything. Sparkles and pink makes everything better.

I can not get enough of these lovely ladies:

Miranda Lambert is one of my favorite artists (and I love her hubby Blake Shelton as well) but this Pistol Annies trio is awesome. If you did not know, Miranda is "Lonestar Annie", the girl in the middle, Angaleena Presley, is "Holler Annie," and the girl on the right, Ashley Monroe is "Hippie Annie." Anyway, I love their debut CD. I can not decide what song I like best, so take a listen if you'd like:

And last but not least. Lisa Van Der Pump of "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" please transplant your home into my apartment. I love all the pink accents, and it not be overwhelming. I think a man could manage living in these pink rooms.

I don't like taking baths, but I'd take one in that tub.

Have a great start to your week!

My New Best Friend

I wish I could say it was a person.
Or even a dog.
Or something, but no, welcome to my world.
My new BFF in the whole wide world is:

HIIT

That's right.
I wasn't going to go to the gym, but then I remembered, oh yeah, I wanted to.
I went to the library, picked up my books and headed to the gym.
My workout went like this:

10 mins of running (9:30 min mile which is a personal best, hey, I run slow).
Thought about using the Step Mill (did about 4 minutes).
Changed my mind and said, treadmill, we're friends (most of the time) let's see if I can do some pyramid intervals or rolling hill intervals.
So, what's a girl to do?
Both.

It went a little something like this:

2 min - 4.0 - 4 incline
1 min - 7.0 - 1 incline
2 min - 4.0 - 5 incline
1 min - 7.2 - 1 incline
2 min - 4.0 - 6 incline
1 min - 7.4 - 1 incline
2 min - 4.0 - 7 incline
1 min - 7.6 - 1 incline
2 min - 4.0 - 8 incline
1 min - 7.8 - 1 incline
2 min - 4.0 - 9 incline
1 min - 8.0 - 0 incline
2 min - 4.0 - 1o incline
1 min - 7.6 - 1 incline
2 min - 4.0 - 9 incline
1 min - 7.4 - 1 incline
2 min - 4.0 - 8 incline
1 min - 7.2 - 1 incline
2 min - 4.0 - 7 incline
1 min - 7.2 - 1 incline
5 min - COOL DOWN

That's right, I might not be as fast as some, but I think I rocked it out.
It also felt WAY different than my 5 mile runs, but I sweat my butt off maybe even more.
We'll see what crazy ideas I get for tomorrow's workout.
Happy Short Work Week!

Five Things on a Saturday

1.
I got a great workout in today. I love running more than anything else; but I should probably start branching out on my cardiovascular endeavors and cross train a little.

2.
Taking Chris shopping, even for household stuff, is not as fun as just going by myself. I love having him with me, but after about 5 mins, he's done. Love the guy, but I'll run errands by myself. (Although we did buy a few ingredients for our end of summer/Labor Day surprise!)

3.
San Diego has the best weather. It was fabulous today. Be jealous, I know you want to.

4.
Mmm... my favorite comfort foods: pasta, and lots of it. I could really go for some mac and cheese, but the lasagna I had for dinner will definitely suffice.

And drumroll please.....

5.
We made these:

Graham Cracker + marshmallow + chocolate = HEAVEN

It was the perfect way to end our night and hope that summer never ends, well, I guess here it doesn't end until January, then there's winter until March, and we're back at summer again. Hope you had a great Saturday. Go make s'mores.

You Could Never Offend, Your Dirty Words Come Out Clean

I'm definitely not the neatest person ever. As I've grown older and have my own place, sometimes, I decide that I do want my place to look neater. I can't imagine if someone came over right now how embarrassed I would be. Granted, Chris and I have no storage so the broom and vacuum are in the dining room, it is terrible. As boring and horrendous as it seems, this three day weekend will be spent cleaning and purging.

As you can see, I'm not always messy. My desk at work may not be this neat right now, but it is much more neat than my apartment. Desk can be seen here, in case you missed it.

Anyway, my least favorite thing is having drawers in the kitchen, when I'd really like drawers in the bathroom. I mean, I love having places for the silverware, but we have 4 drawers in the kitchen, filled with junk. Who really needs 4 junk drawers? Nobody does.

The bathroom is a disaster. My jewelry rarely makes it back onto the rack, the toilet paper rarely makes it into its drawers, and stuff in the cupboard ALWAYS falls out.

The countertops never stay clean. I could spill one teensy, weensy drop of coffee and it would stain. And don't even get me started on someone's grenadine rings.

It has all the potential, just none of the execution. But don't worry, the Dollar Tree, Fantastik! cleaner, and I will become BFFs this weekend. I promise.

Did I mention we haven't had sheets on the bed in who knows how long because they have sand all over them?

1960

I really love the television show, "Mad Men"
I could watch it on Netflix all day, but since I have a job, and I go to the gym, and sometimes a social life (okay, not the last part) I try to limit my intake. I do not watch the current episodes as it is a new obsession. These are the reasons why I love this show more than anything else (except maybe Parenthood and Golden Girls):

(ONE)

I know that you can not tell in this photo, but I love the giant offices with REAL desks made of wood. Desks and cubicles in my office, or any that I have ever worked in, generally not real wood, and hideous. Also, to have a cocktail cupboard, tray, whatever you want to call it, in your office, to drink from time to time, just seems so adult and luxurious. Glamorous even.

(TWO)

The simple advertising. I hate today's advertising. Everything has to come with all you would ever need, including the kitchen sink, and if it doesn't come with it, it better do it. It better clean, sanitize, dust, mop, sweep, etc. with no effort on my part. I just like a much simpler time.

(THREE)

These ladies. I love the secretaries. I love the way they dress, their hair, that they actually dress well for work (yes, I know I am guilty of the jeans and t-shirt days) but look at how classy and put together they all look. Not to mention, they look attractive. They look like men would want to be around them.

(FOUR)

Housewives. This picture, no joke, is kind of what I imagined it'd be like when I grow up. I know that is totally crazy, but its true. I love that style dress, as well.

(FIVE)

This bathroom. I love the blue and pink. I love the tile and the wallpaper. I would love to buy a really old house with classic designs like this. It is so outlandish, but classic, at the same time. Love it. Oh, and Don Draper is pretty smokin'.

(SIX)

Joan Holloway. Umm... what I would do to reign in my curves so I looked like that. I've always wanted to be a redhead, as well. I love her character, her clothes, etc. And that pen necklace. Love, love, love.
